Like all of our guests, our team was happy to see the 5″ of snow this week. As we groomed (click here for the grooming report), we couldn’t help but notice that the new powder blended really nicely with the snow underneath. We’re now keeping watch on the next storm system that’s headed our way, possibly beginning this Tuesday.
We’re fielding some questions from guests who haven’t skied with us recently, and their first question is this: how’s the snow? It’s late February, and the conditions are definitely spring-like. That being said, the snow is still good, and the mountain is holding up well. With over 90” of natural snow, our grooming crew has made sure to preserve it through careful grooming and moving snow around as needed. If you happen to see one of these hardworking individuals, be sure to thank them. We couldn’t do it without them.
We’ve had other guests ask if we will be making additional snow this winter. Like most resorts, we have completed our snowmaking for the season and will be relying on Mother Nature for the remainder of the 2015-2016 winter. Thanks to the El Niño, we are still expecting snow and for the fun to keep coming.
As we announced last week, we’re expanding our operating schedule to be open everyday during Spring Break weeks, from March 2 and through April 3. Every year, we work hard to grow our schedule (as many of you know, we used to be open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays). Our leadership team’s objective is to eventually work our way to daily operations throughout the winter season, and this puts us one step closer. We hope to see you at Pajarito during this time!
It has been a great year here at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. We can’t be more thankful for all the snow we have gotten thanks to the El Niño weather front. To celebrate, we have some awesome news for you all.
I am excited to announce we are extending our daily operations from March 2 to April 3. That means you get an entire month of skiing every single day. What better way to spend a day off with the kids or an unexpected sick day? Lifts will be running from 9am- 4pm as usual, and there’s a chair with your name on it.
If you have been lucky enough to join us this season, thank you for spending time with all of us at Pajarito. I can’t begin to explain how much it means to us to see your smiling faces each day. There is still lots of ski season remaining, so we look forward to seeing you again soon (maybe even tomorrow?)
Speaking of seeing you soon, we have some fun events coming up. Every Thursday is Senior Thursday, where we ask our seasoned guests and instructors to come out, ski together, and have a great time. This event is free and offers all participants the chance to meet like-minded people.
We also have our Telebration Festival coming up. This is the best time to try telemark skiing, or to get some quick tips to improve your technique. This event will take place February 20- 21 and is bound to provide you with a fun time. We recommend you register online in order to reserve your spot, but we’ll also accept registrations the day of the event.
Lastly, we have a Beer & Band event taking place at 3:00 p.m. on February 20. Dance the afternoon away to live music by Roaring Jelly Band while enjoying Blue Heron Brewing Company beer.
We would also like to give a huge thank you to the men and women who attended our K2 Women’s Ski Weekend. We had a great time with everyone, and we couldn’t be more proud that this group not only met but exceeded the Anita Salas Fund’s goal of $10,000. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.
For years, Pajarito has hosted the K2 Women’s Weekend, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring it back again this weekend, February 5-7, during one of our snowiest winters in years. While I personally haven’t attended this women’s event, I can tell you: it’s clearly a lot of fun. The weekend includes discounted lift tickets, free clinics and free demos – and it’s all about supporting cancer awareness while supporting those brave individuals and families who are battling this disease.
There are many activities going on throughout the weekend (for the full list, please check out http://www.pajaritowomen.org), although the local favorites include the group photos (9 a.m. and again at noon on Saturday), FREE demos of the latest K2 skis and snowboards, FREE clinics, a silent auction and special Beer and Band (happening from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in the lodge), and the party and dinner at our lodge on Saturday night.
There’s clearly a lot to celebrate with this event, and all proceeds benefit the Anita Salas Memorial Fund, which supports men and women in New Mexico who are diagnosed with breast or cervical cancers. This group’s goal is to raise $10,000 this year. We hope you can help them achieve that goal!
My thanks to K2 and Pajarito Women for organizing this event and bringing it to our mountain every year. We love working with organizations like these not only because they connect us to our community, but they provide an event that supports a wonderful cause. We’re proud to be a part of it all.
